Iron Sharpens Iron allows men to grow in faith through friendships with other men.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

Our Pre-K classes consist of Bible stories, coloring, crafts, learning prayers, and snacks. Our goal is to reinforce that each student is loved specially and specifically by Jesus, and to make Risen Christ a safe, supportive, and fun place to be!

The program is designed for four- and five-year-olds not yet in kindergarten.  [Kindergarteners should enroll in our Wednesday night programming using the Elementary Religious Ed registration.]  We will consider mature, potty-trained three-year-olds who will turn four during the school year. Registration is required as this is not a drop-in class! Click here to register.

WOMEN OF RISEN CHRIST POTLUCK BREAKFAST

Sat. Oct. 10, 9:15 a.m.

All women of the parish are invited to join us for a potluck breakfast in the Holy Family Hall.  Bring a dish to share, and enjoy the community the women of Risen Christ provide.  After breakfast, we will be making treat bags for the homeless and needy. The bags will be distributed to downtown agencies.  Bring a bag of individually-wrapped candies for our treat bags.

DEACON SUNDAY

On October 11 we celebrate Deacon Sunday! The purpose of the event is twofold — to affirm and appreciate men who have responded to the call to the diaconate, and to encourage other men to consider a diaconate vocation.

Let us keep in our prayers all deacons in our Church, especially our own Deacon Tim Unger, Deacon Tim Kenny, Deacon Tom Piccone and Deacon Sam Bittner. They deserve our gratitude and affirmation for their selfless work, proclaiming the Word of God, performing baptisms, witnessing marriages, delivering homilies, and generously sharing their unique gifts in their ministry. We also honor their wives who faithfully support and share in their husbands’ diaconate ministry in multiple ways. CHRIST IN THE CITY MEAL PREPARATION

Help to feed the homeless! Volunteers from the parish are needed to bake a meal (recipe provided) that will be served by Christ in the City.  Prepared meals can be dropped off to the parish office on Tuesday. To volunteer, join our Christ in the City Flocknote email group.

 Everyone and anyone at any stage of their personal development can live more and more effectively by discovering and then growing in discernment of spirits and discerning God’s will.

Fr. Dennis Brown is a member of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary. The Oblates staff Holy Ghost Church in Denver, the Lanteri Center, and are spiritual directors in the archdiocesan seminary. Father Dennis for decades has been giving the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius.

EHMC TRAINING

Sat. Oct 17, 10:30 a.m.

All currently mandated Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, as well as parishioners interested in becoming mandated as EMHCs, are required to attend one of the two trainings.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion must be:

• at least 16 years of age;

• fully initiated in the Church (baptized, confirmed, Eucharist);

• persons of genuine Eucharistic faith, living exemplary Catholic lives;

• are not restricted from being Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (e.g., irregular marriages or cohabiting couples)

The archdiocese will mandate EMHCs for a four-year period to distribute Holy Communion at Mass and to our nursing homes and homebound parishioners.

After each Mass on October 20, a relic of St. Paul of the Cross, the founder of the Passionists, will be available in the sanctuary for veneration — a special opportunity for prayer and reflection.

EHMC TRAINING

All currently mandated Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, as well as parishioners interested in becoming mandated as EMHCs, are required to attend one of the two trainings.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion must be:

• at least 16 years of age;

• fully initiated in the Church (baptized, confirmed, Eucharist);

• persons of genuine Eucharistic faith, living exemplary Catholic lives;

• are not restricted from being Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (e.g., irregular marriages or cohabiting couples)

The archdiocese will mandate EMHCs for a four-year period to distribute Holy Communion at Mass and to our nursing homes and homebound parishioners.

TRUNK OR TREATING

Join us for a mini Fall Festival!   We’ll start in the Holy Family Hall at 6:30 p.m. for crafts, games and healthy snacks.  Then we’ll parade out to the parking lot for trunk or treating at 7:00 p.m.  This event is for children age 12 and under.

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL BLOOD BUS AT RISEN CHRIST

It’s easier than you think. Plus, when you give blood to Children’s Hospital Colorado, it goes straight to the patients in our care.

Just one blood donation can make a difference for up to five children. The Blood Bus will be parked in the Risen Christ parking lot outside of the Emmaus Center on Friday, Oct. 30. The blood drive process, including paperwork, takes between 30 and 45 minutes.

MASS & ROSARY AT PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Fri.  Nov. 20, 10 a.m.

Join Fr. John Nepil for Mass on the third Friday of each month, followed by the Rosary led by the Regional Knights of Columbus. Meet at Planned Parenthood at 7155 E 38th Ave in Denver. A visible presence of prayer makes a difference, and can save the life of an unborn child.

POOR CLARE COOKIE SALES

November 21-22 after all Masses

Representatives of the Capuchin Poor Clares of the Monastery of Our Lady of the Light in Denver will sell Poor Clare cookies after Masses on Saturday and Sunday while supplies last. The cookies are baked by the sisters as a way to support their lifestyle as a cloistered community, which exists primarily to constantly raise prayer to God for the Church and especially for its benefactors. Each attractive cookie gift box contains 100 cookies or 1.5 pounds in a variety of four flavors: coconut, orange, cinnamon and vanilla.

ADULT CHOIR REHEARSAL

The Adult Choir sings at the 4:00 p.m. Saturday Mass on the 1st weekend of the month, and then for the 9:00 a.m. Mass on the 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month September through May. The Adult Choir will also sing at the 9:00 a.m. Christmas Mass.

Like St. Monica, we pray for our children in need of God’s mercy and a return to the practice of their Catholic faith. We meet Wednesdays from 7 – 8 in the Adoration Chapel. All women are invited to gather for one hour of guided prayer, including the Rosary.

Our annual Angel Tree program provides Christmas gifts for three low-income Catholic schools, two low-income nursing homes, Risen Christ parishioners in need, and Marisol’s women’s home.  We are collecting $25 gift cards to Walmart and Target.  We are hoping to collect 500 gift cards. For your convenience, you can donate online to our gift card fund, and we will buy the gift cards.

ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT

Mon. Nov. 30,  6:30 p.m. in the church

All women of the parish are invited to our annual Advent by Candlelight program. This year’s theme is “Peace”, in honor of the conclusion to the Jubilee Year of St. Francis. The program has inspirational readings and songs, and a presentation by Fr. Scott Bailey.  Followed by a small reception in the Holy Family Hall (parish hall).  Bring a friend, and start the Advent season with an uplifting experience.
