Help the congregation lift their voices to the Lord!
MUSIC MINISTRY
“Sing a new song to the LORD, for he has done marvelous deeds.” Psalm 98:1
MARCH MUSIC NOTES
We want to offer an encouragement to those who are perhaps hesitant or timid about singing during the Mass because they “have a poor voice” or “don’t know how to sing well.” Our bishops in the United States actually addressed this very sentiment in a document entitled “Sing to the Lord.” What they say is below, we would encourage taking their instruction to heart!
“13b. The quality of our participation in such sung praise comes less from our vocal ability than from the desire of our hearts to sing together of our love for God. Participation in the Sacred Liturgy both expresses and strengthens the faith that is in us. 14. Our participation in the Liturgy is challenging. Sometimes, our voices do not correspond to the convictions of our hearts. At other times, we are distracted or preoccupied by the cares of the world. But Christ always invites us to enter into song, to rise above our own preoccupations, and to give our entire selves to the hymn of his Paschal Sacrifice for the honor and glory of the Most Blessed Trinity.”
The Adult Choir sings at the 4:00 p.m. Saturday Mass on the 1st weekend of the month, and then for the 9:00 a.m. Mass on the 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month September through May. The Adult Choir will also sing at the 9:00 a.m. Christmas Mass.
Rehearsals are on most Mondays at 7:00 p.m. We also have one monthly rehearsal on Thursday evening and one monthly optional rehearsal on Saturday. The full choir schedule can be found in the pdf file below. We are structuring the rehearsals such that it will be accessible for those with no prior musical experience while still being challenging for longtime musicians. For all parishioners 18+.
This is a great opportunity for growing in community and glorifying the Lord through music!
Join our St. Joseph Men’s Choir!
This is a lower commitment choir that meets roughly once a month for rehearsals, and sing at 4 Masses throughout the year: the evening Mass for the Solemnity of St. Joseph, the Vigil Mass for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Vigil Mass for All Saints, and the Vigil Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.
This a good fit for those looking to get involved with more time constraints. Rehearsals will be scheduled so that men can also participate in the Adult Choir.
This is a great opportunity for growing in community and glorifying the Lord through music! For men 18+.
