Our History

Risen Christ Catholic Parish was founded August 22, 1967, by Archbishop James V. Casey who appointed Very Rev. Joseph M. O’Malley as its founding pastor. Prior to the building of the church, the community worshipped in the gymnasium of Cherry Creek High School and then at the Continental Theater.
Ground was broken for the new church building on December 29, 1968, and the first Mass was celebrated in the church on January 25, 1970.
In the summer of 1987, members of the congregation donated a 6.5-ton, twelve foot high statue of the Risen Christ. On August 23, 1992, the new Emmaus Center was blessed and dedicated by Archbishop James F. Stafford.
In 2024, the parish began a major construction project called Draw Near. This involved a complete renovation of the main level of the church to make accessibility improvements to the restrooms, confessionals, music ministry, and altar area. The sound system and acoustics of the church were improved so that everyone can clearly hear the Word of God.  The new altar was dedicated by Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila at Mass on Gaudete Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024. During the altar dedication, a relic of St. Maria Goretti was placed inside the altar by the archbishop.
